Three Self-Care Rituals To Boost Your Mood

Christmas is great and all but let’s be honest, it can be very stressful with all the holiday parties, all the family gatherings, all the food, and yes, all of the alcohol.

It can be a lot, and it’s easy to become overwhelmed, exhausted, and burnt out – even if you’re “relaxing”.

Since mornings are more than likely your only time to spend alone, in this week’s Well Wednesday I’m going to focus on a super simple, three-step morning routine to elevate your self-care and help alleviate some holiday stress.

The best morning routine to help combat stress this holiday season

Realistically speaking, you probably don’t have a ton of time in the morning. So, this super quick, super effective meditation can help target and release any tension you may be holding – even when you barely have five minutes to spare.

Once you’re awake find a comfortable place to sit or lay down and close your eyes, then focus on your breath.

I recommend taking six deep breath‘s before you begin this mini meditation.

When you’re ready, imagine yourself scanning your body from the top of your head to the soles of your feet, moving slowly so that you can identify any areas where you’re holding tension.

Take a moment to focus on those areas, then consciously release that tension from your body.

You can also use an affirmation like this to support you in releasing the tension:

“I acknowledge and release the tension, and I’m ready to make space for joy”

Continue this body scan until you reach the bottom of your feet, then finish with three deep breath’s. If you like you can add in a soothing mantra like:

“I am whole, I am calm, I am joyful.”

It’s winter, I get it. The last thing you want to do on a chilly December morning is hop into an ice cold shower.

But trust me when I say this, cold showers are one of the best ways to increase endorphins, boost your energy, and reduce inflammation.

Plus, when you get out of a cold shower you instantly feel warmer because your body temperature is lower than the air temperature.

It also serves as the first hard thing you do in a day, so if you’re dreading the family gathering that’s set to take place at five PM, this cold shower will mentally prepare you to handle whatever the day may throw at you.

You can also use my personal little trick and mentally tell yourself that you are at the spa and this is a luxury.

Just give it a try. You might hate me at first, but you’ll learn to love it, and your body and mind will thank you.

Yeah, yeah I may sound like a broken record at this point (I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again) but, facial massages are one of the most luxurious and enjoyable ways to reduce physical tension and alleviate mental stress.

For a detailed description of how to perform a facial massage check out this blog.

Otherwise your routine can look a little like this:

Once you’re out of the cold shower, wrap yourself in a warm, fluffy towel or robe, then grab Halo AM Oil Cleanser and dispense six drops onto your fingertips, and then gently massage onto your face.

I like to start at my neck and then follow along my jaw line to my cheekbones. I also like to spend a little bit of extra time on the bridge of my nose and my temples, then I move along my eyebrows upwards towards my hairline.

You can perform your facial massage in whatever way feels good for you, and feel free to use a chilled gua sha or jade roller in replacement of your fingertips as the cold tool can help with lymphatic drainage and can help in reducing inflammation.

This super easy and effective morning self-care routine can be your go to, not only during the holiday season, but all year round.

Life isn’t always easy, but when you set yourself up for success every morning you can handle things with more grace and patience, and take a little pressure off yourself.
