ENERGIZING MORNING ROUTINE TO BRIGHTEN YOUR DAY IN LESS THAN TEN MINUTES.

This time of year can be draining. Everything from trying to readjust post holidays, to working hard to keep your resolutions, or to contending with the weather (snow, freezing temperatures, dry air), not to mention minimal hours of daylight.
Let’s be honest, January can be a bit of a slog.
So, for this week’s Well Wednesday I thought I’d share an energizing morning routine that can be done in ten minutes or less, that will brighten your mood, your skin, and your day.

The hour or so after you wake up and before you got to bed, are possibly the only times that you actually have a bit of control over.
Your morning routine can dictate not only how your day unfolds, but can also shift the way you perceive the world around you and the situations you face each day. Your nighttime routine can help you release any lingering tension and set yourself up for a solid night’s sleep and a great day ahead.
Yeah, yeah you get it, so without further ado, let’s dive in!
Here is a simple energizing morning routine to brighten your day.
STEP ONE: BREATHE
Breathing is something that we definitely take for granted in our society. Which is strange since it’s the one thing that keeps us alive.
So, as a rule of thumb I like to practice breathwork every morning. It is THE easiest and quickest way to ground yourself, while releasing any tension that may be storing itself somewhere in your body.
You can do your breathwork in bed, or sitting on the edge of your bed, or even standing.
Simply close your eyes, place one hand on your heart and the other on your belly. Breathe in slowly, hold your breath at the top for five seconds, then exhale as slowly and mindfully as you can.
Repeat this a minimum of six times, and if you like, you can add a gratitude practice into this ritual. On the inhale, think of one thing you’re grateful for, then feel the gratitude fill you up on the exhale.
STEP TWO: MOVE
One of the most effective ways to conquer fatigue and energize yourself is through movement. I personally do core exercises every morning for about five minutes, but you’re welcome to do any sort of movement that makes you feel good.
You can try yoga, running, walking, burpee‘s – whatever floats your boat.
The idea is simply to awaken and unite your body, mind and soul every morning.
STEP THREE: CHALLENGE
Challenging yourself first thing in the morning is something that can provide you with a lot of mental strength as well as set you up to better face whatever stresses the day may bring.
As you already know, one of my favourite ways to not only challenge myself, but to also decrease inflammation, is cold showers.
Simply turn your shower on as cold as possible and stand under the water for a minimum of sixty seconds. Once you’re done and out, I promise you the air temperature will feel warmer than when you went in.
The benefits of cold showers are endless, and far outweigh the mere minutes of discomfort that the cold water may bring you.
Just commit to it. You won’t regret it.
STEP FOUR: REWARD
Another one of my absolute favourite ways to wake myself up and release any tension as well as promote lymphatic drainage is through facial massages.
I recommend doing this while cleansing with Halo AM Oil Cleanser.

Otherwise, I recommend starting at your neck and moving upwards, then onto your jaw, then to your cheekbones, your nose, your eyebrows and forehead. Feel free to watch this video for a visual.
Again, this is a great way to not only clean your skin by removing any environmental debris that may have built up overnight, but also to promote lymphatic drainage, decrease puffiness and give your skin a little self-care treat.
STEP FIVE: HYDRATE
Finally, to wrap up your morning routine, I highly recommend having two full glasses (16 ounces) of water. This is a great way to flush away any toxins, rehydrate after sleep, and ensure you’re getting an adequate amount of water before you start your day.
My sister-in-law got me started on this years ago and it’s been an absolute must for me every morning, especially in the dry winter weather.
Side note: your water can be warm or cold, and you can definitely add a slice or squeeze of lemon. A lot of our holistic health coach partners swear by lemon water in the morning.
And there you have it: a super simple, energizing morning routine that you can practice in less than 10 minutes every day to leave you glowing from the inside out.
Remember, you might not be able to control what the day throws at you, but you can control your mornings and your nights.
